Welcome To The Northern Colorado .NET Users Group

Next Meeting: Monday, Februry 8th 5:30 pm

Speaker:

Jeff Certain

Topic:

Parallel Computing in Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0

Moore's Law, proposed in 1965, continues to hold true but the practical implications have changed in recent years. Rather than manifesting as a doubling of CPU speed every couple of years, the number of cores on a chip are rising instead. To take advantage of this new paradigm, developers must understand how to leverage parallel and multi-core programming. These topics used to be the domain of gurus -- senior developers well-trained in the mystical art of multi-threaded programming. With the release of .NET 4.0, new CLR classes are available that abstracts away the requirement for deep knowledge of threading. Now, developers have access to powerful new mechanisms for implementing parallel computing, including Parallel LINQ (PLINQ) and the Task Parallel Library. New debugging tools built into VS2010 make it easier than ever to understand your multi-threaded or parallel application. These are a few of the topics that will be covered in this talk.

Jeff Certain is a software architect at Colorado CustomWare, a mid-sized ISV that specializes in solutions for state and county governments. He is heavily involved in the technical community, and has been a Microsoft MVP since 2007.
